Data recovery, please read all info?

A few months ago my brother came to me for help because his computer was blue screening. So I decided I would take and see what I could do. I cannot reformat the harddrive as the main concern (if the only) is retrieving family photos and other personal data.

After much fussing I got it to recognize primary IDE drive 0 and attempt to boot. Sometimes I recieve the windows xp splash screen and sometimes I don’t. Regardless of the xp splash screen, I get the folowing blue screen error:

safe mode in all forms gives the same result, CD DRIVE IS OUT (if you would have read the post >.<) therefore no outside programs will work.

Question regarding HDMI Input into Sharp Aquos LCD TV and digital optical audio output to Onkyo HTS-5100 HTIB?

I have a Sharp Aquos LCD TV (Model LC52D85U) and an Onkyo HTS-5100 surround sound system. The receiver on the surround sound only has HDMI pass-through so it does not carry any audio to TV. Instead, I want to know if I can connect all my components directly to th TV with HDMI and then use the tv’s digital optical output to feed to the Onkyo receiver. My main question is, will the TVpass the digital audio information it receives from the components as is or will it filter the audio data into only what the TV itself can support and then pass only those formats through the optical out? I called Sharp and Best Buy and both have rocket scientists on the other end of the phone line that have no clue what I’m talking about. Any help would be greatly appreciate from some one experienced with the technology.

The receiver does not receive any audio through HDMI. It only passes through the video to TV. For example: If I have my playstation 3 hooked up directly to the receiver, I have to connect the HDMI for video and optical for audio otherwise I do not get any audio at all. This has been confirmed with Onkyo. The reason for my question is because the receiver only has two Optical inputs and I have more components to hook up that only have optical for digital input.

I am new with computers, I need some advice on this custom build gaming PC?

I am planning to build my very own computer to play video games. I am looking to play games such as Fallout: New Vegas, Skyrim, MW3, Battlefield 3, Crysis, etc. Usually I buy a computer that is already built, but I recently learned that it is cheaper to build one yourself. So, after a few computer engineering classes, I more or less acquired an idea as to how to build a computer when you have all of the parts at hand. I may need a bit of help from Youtube tutorials, but it’s not a big problem. I have a flexible $650-750 budget.

Anyways, here are the components that I plan to buy:

AMD phenom ii X6 1090t Processor
Intel DH67BLB Socket LGA 1155 Motherboard
500GB of Hard Drive memory
Corsair Vengeance 2*4GB of RAM
700 Watt power supply

First, I need someone to tell me whether this is a good system base for playing games or not. Are there any cheaper components that run better than the ones I bought? Is the power supply I bought enough for these components? Thank you.

Now, I am aware that those five components are the most important part of a pc, and I find this an easy concept to grasp. I have been told, however, that you also need small components, such as USB ports, Ethernet ports, PCI ports, optical drive ports, etc. and I have no idea what this is. Could someone either explain something to me,or tell me what extra little ports/components I need to buy other than the five obvious ones? The main question I ask these questions is because I looked at ASUS’s “recommended power supply” page, and I came across some utterly confusing language and names for some “ports” that I had to choose…I was very lost.

BTW, I know that I need a case, but I will buy that once I can plan out where everything goes in the computer.

Please help, and remember that I am rather new to computers, so any links that can help me understand or some information as to what I need to make a computer run and play games would be very helpful. Sorry if I seem very clueless but…well…I am. Someone tell me if I need to clarify something. Computer experts/geeks/nerds or whatever wanted especially please!
